Description
The five Romantic Piano Pieces op. 11 by Martin Münch were written between 1984 and 1986 in Mainz/Germany. In contrast to the Capriccios op. 13, which were written at about the same time, these pieces do not manifest the struggle for compositional and stylistic development, but are essentially biographically initiated and dedicated to some important women and friends of that phase of life. Consequently, Münch dispenses with newer harmonic and compositional elements in these shorter piano pieces and, although he had already crossed the border to free tonality with his 3rd Capriccio in 1982, remains in the late romantic and fundamentally tonal idiom. In terms of difficulty, these five colorful character pieces span a range from the easy "melody" to the virtuoso and contrapuntally intricate "ballad".
